Thomas Dolby (“Europa & The Pirate Twins,” “She Blinded Me With Science,” “Hyperactive!”) is heading out on a brief lecture & music tour next month! The tour begins in Washington, D.C., at The Loft Oct. 3.
Other stops are New York City at Tribeca Oct. 5; Chicago at Martyr’s Oct. 7; Seattle at The Triple Door Oct. 10; Portland, Ore., at a KINK-FM concert Oct. 12; San Francisco at Bimbo’s 365 Club Oct. 13; and two dates in Los Angeles – the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery Oct. 14 and the Grammy Museum Oct. 17.
After concluding the lecture/music tour, Dolby heads to the U.K. for a full live concert tour in November. In early 2012 Dolby will embark on a theatre / performing arts center tour of the U.S. nd will play a few festival dates later in the year.
The plan calls for Dolby to spend 60 minutes talking about his new online social networking media game, “The Floating City,” and perform songs from his upcoming album along with a few fan favorites from his incredibly unique catalog.
Dolby will talk about the player-created stories that took place in “The Floating City,” including the “patent applications” players filed to protect themselves from many of the freakish and unexpected events that took place during the course of gameplay and were reported upon by The Floating City Gazette. Dolby will also talk about the game’s development team that consisted of members working in different time zones who never actually interacted with each other on a face-to-face basis.
“A Map Of the Floating City” is scheduled for an October 25 release on Lost Toy People Records via Redeye Distribution. Recorded on Dolby’s solar-powered lifeboat, Mark Knopfler, Imogen Heap and Regina Spektor were among the artists guesting on the album.
(I’m keeping my fingers crossed he might swing through Tulsa, unlikely as that may be!)
